On the afternoon of October 28, we were delighted to welcome Professor Paul Yip, Board Chairman of the Yew Wah International Education Foundation. Professor Yip had not visited the school for two years, so he was delighted to meet with new Principal Aaron J G King for the first time, welcoming him to the Yew Wah family. Professor Yip discussed with Mr King all the progress the school had made in the last few years both on the academics and to the campus and facilities.
Professor Yip was impressed with the hard work and accomplishments of the students, such as practising the school hymn in the music class, making the UN Development Goals tree by the Secondary students during Social Science Week, and the Primary’s cross-curriculum gardening project.
Professor Yip was accompanied by Deputy CEO of the Foundation, Dr Xu Xuejun, and Dr Esther Chan, Assistant to the Chairman. As Yew Wah continues to grow around China, and more and more people come to appreciate the value of the quality holistic bilingual education that we offer, it is expected that new YWIES schools will be built in other cities in China in the coming years.
During a dinner with senior staff, Professor Yip praised colleagues on the academic and non-academic side who had served our school for 10 years, and some even as long as 15 years: Ms Melody Long, Head of Human Resources Division, Ms Rose Pei, Head of Primary Student Life, and Ms Sara Sun, Co-Principal.
In a speech during the visit, Professor Yip talked passionately about the growing economic partnership between China and the United Kingdom, and the wonderful opportunities being offered to our students through renowned Cambridge international examinations and top quality university guidance to receive world leading higher education and employment in the UK in the future. He also talked about the strengths of an educational model which fuses the best of the East of the West to prepare our students for the exciting changes that our globalised world is facing.
